Those little 15x80 pixel two-color buttons seem to have become the de-facto standard for common links. Sure, you can make them by hand, but why bother?

On the button thing, I don’t like these trendy little boxes because I find them hard to read, and my vision is not bad (52, bifocals, not 1” thick) and I wonder how truly vision-impaired folks feel about them.
Posted by: empey on July 24, 2003 3:54 PMLook at the source of the page to see how it’s laid out and for the link to the style-sheet. It took me quite some time to lay it out so it would do what I wanted it to do (well, mostly, anyway).
The small buttons can be a problem on the eye - that’s why it’s important to always include an alt attribute for the image and a title attribute for the link. Many browsers display that information in the status bar or a tip-strip.
